About This Event

Come explore a very unusual painting technique at First Friday ArtWalk at the Gallery!

Eighteen student artists are showcasing their artistic talents resulting from the 5th Annual ArtLockin held February 7 at Stephen Smith Gallery. Art students from Washburn Rural High School’s art program were challenged to explore a unique technique using mixed media led by professional artist Linda Rowell and WRHS Art Instructor Brad LeDuc. “Fractured Portraits” are created using a collaging technique from hand drawn portraits and other collected items to communicate their story. Students also learned about the “art of selling” and the business practices in selling through an art gallery.

Also on display are Linda Rowell’s Fractured Series, as well as her new scenic encaustic oil and wax paintings. Linda brings years of exploring various art techniques to create the variety on display this month. Her art recently evolved by loosening her style where the content is defined but freely expressed.

Other gallery artists on display as well are Cindy Manry, Brad LeDuc, Stephen Haack, Ed Navone and David Vertacnik. A special note – proceeds from Ed Navone’s work is donated to Washburn University Art Department and Mulvane Art Center.

Parking is FREE downtown after 5pm on Kansas Avenue, metered parking and City Garages.
