Washed Ashore Jelly Bloom Immersive Experience
NOTO Arts Center · NOTO
Step inside this immersive exhibit and discover larger-than-life sculptures created entirely from marine debris collected from beaches and waterways. Each stunning piece tells a powerful story about ocean conservation while showcasing the incredible possibilities of art made from recycled materials. Perfect for families, school groups, and curious minds of all ages, Washed Ashore offers a unique opportunity to explore, learn, and be inspired. (Reservations required for large groups.) Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea is a nationally recognized traveling exhibition created by a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting plastic pollution through art and education. Over the past 15 years, the organization has removed more than 35 tons of plastic pollution from the Pacific Northwest and turned it into more than 85 sculptures designed to spark conversation, inspire stewardship, and encourage changes in everyday consumer habits. The exhibit has been displayed at prominent venues across the country, including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and even national television appearances such as The Kelly Clarkson Show and installations with Disney properties. https://www.facebook.com/events/934783329578377/?event_time_id=934783442911699

TopCity Riders and Friends will present history of Legendary Pioneers Of the West .. Bill Pickett (1870–1932): A Texas-born rodeo superstar who revolutionized the sport with his “bulldogging” technique—a method of wrestling steers to the ground. He was the first Black man inducted into the National Rodeo Hall of Fame. Bass Reeves (1838–1910): Born into slavery, Reeves escaped to Indian Territory and later became the first Black deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. His prolific career and unyielding pursuit of justice are widely considered the inspiration behind the fictional “Lone Ranger” Nat Love (1854–1921): Known by his nickname “Deadwood Dick,” Love was a skilled sharpshooter and cattle driver. After winning a roping competition in Deadwood, South Dakota, he documented his epic adventures in a famous 1907 autobiography, securing a place for Black cowboys in history. Bose Ikard (1843–1929): An exceptional ranch hand and trail driver who worked the famous Goodnight-Loving Trail. His loyalty, survival skills, and deep friendship with his employer inspired the character Joshua Deets in Larry McMurtry’s classic Western novel, Lonesome Dove “Stage Coach” Mary More Than Just a Laundress Mary Fields was fearless in the rough and male dominated Wild West. She was the first African American woman to become a U.S. postal service star route carrier, secured through contract bonds. Fields would deliver posts on horseback in rough terrain and inclement weather, venturing on solo trips fully armed and ready to fire. John Ware (1845 – 11 September 1905) was a Canadian cowboy who was influential in the early years of the burgeoning ranching industry in southern Alberta. Remembered for his excellent horsemanship, he was among the first ranchers in Alberta, arriving in 1882 on a cattle drive from the United States and settling to ranch until his death in 1905 The Buffalo Soldiers Buffalo Soldiers were pioneering African American regiments of the United States Army established by Congress in 1866. Originally comprising the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry, these segregated units played a vital role in westward expansion and left a profound legacy in American military and environmental history. It's the Annual Asskicker - 20 Miles on the Kaw!
Compass Point @ Dirty Girl Adventures · NOTO
It’s that time again! 20 miles on the Kaw, the heat, the low flow, and the duration make this annual event a real challenge—usually! Spend the entire day with the Dirty Girls on the Kansas River. We will paddle and search for the channel, or maybe even walk a bit. We will also explore the sandbars, have some water fights, and enjoy a really great day! This event will take you from Lawrence to DeSoto. This event is NOT for novice paddlers; it is a long, hot day on the Kaw. This requires strength, endurance, and heat tolerance – usually! We have gotten lucky a few times over the years and enjoyed a long day with reasonable temperatures and great flow rates. It’s always a good day, and it’s a great annual tradition to enjoy! REQUIREMENTS: If you haven’t paddled the Kaw before, you must be cleared as a paddler through Denise and Jennifer – email us with your paddling experience @adventure@dirtygirladventures.net You will receive a detailed informational email with maps and the locations of gear drop-off and check-in two days before the event, once you have pre-registered. HERE’S the PLAN for the Day! *OYO means you own your own gear7:30 am GEAR DROP: OYO’s will gear drop in Lawrence at the River Trails – you will stage your boat and gear, then head to DeSoto to board the bus. 8:30 am EVERYONE WILL CHECK IN at the DeSoto River Access Ramp to load the bus for a ride to our starting point in Lawrence. Bring: Sunscreen, a GALLON of WATER, electrolyte replacements, plenty of hearty snacks and lunch, and beverages of choice. WEAR: Clothing that can get damp and dry quickly, sun-protective clothing, a sarong or light fabric to get wet and drape across your body to stay cool, a hat, and water shoes. FLIP FLOPS and CROCS ARE NOT OK. Expected time commitment: Seriously, ALL DAY! We usually finish paddling early evening. However long it takes, we don’t rush the river — we go with the flow! Regular Rental: $60Club Rental: $50OYO = Own your own kayak and gearRegular OYO: $50Club OYO: $40 IF THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT AND YOU’D LIKE TO BE ADDED TO THE WAITING LIST, EMAIL US AT ADVENTURE@DIRTYGIRLADVENTURES.NET Dirty Girl Adventures Event Refund Policy: Refunds are granted up to two weeks before the event when requested via email to adventure@dirtygirladventures.net. After that, no refunds are available. Dirty Girl Adventures may cancel an event due to weather or other conditions. Everyone will be refunded if that is the case. We will paddle and hike in cool, rainy, or snowy weather. Cancellation only occurs in severe weather or dangerous conditions. What are you paying for? Dirty Girl Adventures, LLC will organize the event, provide a guide, offer trail support, and provide docent information throughout the day. We will monitor weather and conditions to ensure safety. Our knowledgeable guide service includes a lead guide and a sweep guide during the hike. Trail support includes first aid, environmental and local knowledge, safety monitoring, pacing, and interpretive information about the environment and location.

Tuesday Topics: Decoding the Kansas Citizenship Voting Requirement Amendment
Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library · Midtown
Kansans will vote on a constitutional amendment in the November general election. This month, we will hear from Marisa O’Gara on the topic “Decoding the Kansas Citizen Voting Requirement Amendment.” **About our Speaker** Marisa O’Gara is a Senior Policy Advisor at the Institute for Responsive Government, where she drafts election legislation and constitutional amendments both nationally and in Kansas. She previously spent four years as an election litigator at Elias Law Group, where she litigated voting rights cases nationally and in Kansas. Her work in the state includes constitutional challenges to Kansas’s elimination of the three-day mail ballot grace period, as well as litigation in which the League has been a plaintiff regarding Kansas’s signature matching law and the “false representation of an election official” provision. She received her B.A. from the University of Rhode Island, her J.D. from Cornell University, and is a member of the Kansas, Illinois, and D.C. bars. **About the proposed constitutional amendment**On Nov. 3, 2026, Kansas voters will decide on a proposed constitutional amendment on their general election ballots. Constitutional Amendment – Kansas Citizenship Voting Requirement Explanatory statement: This amendment would clarify that only a person who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to vote in this state. A vote for this proposition would clarify that only a person who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to vote in this state.A vote against this proposition would make no change to the constitution of the state of Kansas, and the language concerning voter qualifications would remain the same.____About Tuesday Topics: The first Tuesday of each month the League of Women Voters hosts a presenter to discuss various civic engagement topics. Lunch can be purchased from the library’s Millennium Cafe and brought into the meeting. Attend in person or by Zoom using the link on the library event page. https://events.tscpl.org/events
