KEITH THE CRITIC: Reviews for July / August 2019

The Lion King (2019)- 4 out of 4 stars

Of course Simba idolizes his father King Mustafa and he wants to grow up to be just like him. Everybody loves the king except for his brother Scar who is now third in line to take over. Scar has to figure out a way to get rid of the King and his son.

The plan is carried out and Mustafa reaches up to Scar to help pull him up the mountains but he refuses and the King falls to his death. And then he tells the hyenas to go after Simba and kill him as well. Then Scar will take over as the king and he finds himself unchallenged by anybody.

Will Simba is away from everybody he makes some new friends, but he must realize that he has to go back to take over everything his father has done and take over as the King.

Now I think the directing of Jon Favreau was fantastic and he also did The Jungle Book which was another really outstanding and well directed film. Favreau takes great care of how the movie looks and even though it was already done brilliantly in animation I think he just brings out a lot the characters and in the overall looks of this movie.

Donald Glover, Beyonce Knowles, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Alfre Woodard and everybody in this cast was so outstanding and hugely talented.

And the great James Earl Jones was again the voice of Mustafa and his voice is mesmerizing and outstanding as it is in any voice role.

And once again the outstanding animals that's in Lion King has they all look real. I can't believe how much time an effort it took to make these animals look so real and it is it's not nominated.

I gave this movie 4 out of 4 stars

Stuber- 3 out of 4 stars

Vic Manning (Dave Bautista) is upset at the loss of his partner in a shootout, and Angie McHenry (Mira Sorvino) tells him to take some time off. So he agrees to take some time off he's going to have some eye surgery he's going to have his daughter take him to the hospital.

His daughter tells him to just get an Uber and they can take him anywhere. Stu (Kumail Nanjiani) is the driver and Manning doesn't understand why do you keep stopping to pick up other passengers. He said that he has to pick up multiple passengers and and that makes this a good business to be in.

Stu is just out to provide service and Detective Manning is out to discover who is dealing heroin and who killed his partner. And there are so many funny scenes in what was a really good solid entertaining movie.

I bought the Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani relationship and they become very close off screen as well. Now this movie is fun it's got some great action and this is a movie that I went in and I enjoyed and I'm going to give this movie three out of four stars.

 Crawl

Haley (Kaya Scodelario) who swims for The University of Florida, sister calls her and tells her that there's a hurricane is going to hit. Her sister tells her she can't get ahold of their dad. But her sister tells Haley not to go to take cover because this hurricane is massive. Of course Haley ignores what her sister says and she goes to find her dad Dave (Barry Pepper) who she thought was at his home. But then she realizes how bad the hurricane has hit and it's still coming.

When she sees her father and he's been badly hurt and he's in the basement. And she has to get them out because the water is building in the basement will soon be flooded. So she is helping her dad get out of the basement that all of a sudden she hears a noise. And then they discover that it's a relentless pack a gigantic alligators.

I think that director/ producer Alexandre Aja did a good job. This movie is just fun and exciting to go to and I think he realized that. I thought that Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper were terrific and this movie is very exciting. I also kind of like call the daughter and her father add a feud she blame him and he blamed her.

I thought the alligators looked great I thought there was so much action in this movie and of course Sam Raimi is one of the producers and I heard he was on the set all the time now I know he added a little bit a flavor to the movie.

I gave this movie a solid three out of four stars

SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME

Spider-Man/ Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is back after Avengers: Endgame he tries to get back to a normal life. He goes back to high school and reconnects with his friends and he just wants to get back to a normal life. But most of all he's in love with Michelle Jones (Zendaya) and he's going to tell her when they go on an overseas trip to Europe. And he really doesn't want to put on the Spider-Man so when they go on the trip he leaves the Spider-Man suit at home.

Then of course May Parker (Marisa Tomei) packs the Spider-Man suit just in case. Then all of a sudden there's a Spider-Man emergency so he puts on his suit anyway and fights along with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) and feels good to have him at his side. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is there as well and said Mysterio and Spider-Man will get along just fine he hopes. Because remember Iron Man told Spider-Man he was the leader now but Peter Parker doesn't think he's a leader. So everything is up in the air and he just wants to relax and enjoy this vacation in Europe.

I really do love Spider-Man movies especially the ones with Tom Holland in it who is a great actor and athlete, and does quite a few of his own stunts. Samuel L.Jackson, Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal were all very good in this film.

I give this movie 4 out of 4 stars

Toy Story 4 - 4 out of 4 stars

Woody (Tom Hanks) has always been very confident in his life he has so many friends, and they are all there for Bonnie. When she has her first day at kindergarten she is so shy, that Woody puts himself in her bag to check on her if sure everything is going okay. And then Bonnie makes a little character called for Forky (Tony Hale) he thinks of himself as nothing but trash. So Woody tells everybody else that he has to be there to protect Forky because that is a member of the toy family.

So Woody, Buzz (Tim Allen), and everybody else has to protect Forky because for some reason Bonnie thinks of him as one of her toys. Then of course forky always think that he belongs in the garbage can and wants to go on a trip and they all have to be there to help him realize that he is not garbage. Because they tried to convince him that one of her all-time favorite toys. So this film is a terrific and exciting film that the whole family can really enjoy.

After Toy Story 3 I thought they were done then I heard about 6 years ago that they were going to make a part 4. Then all of a sudden it's me and made everybody is back except for of course not Don Rickles and Jim Varney who both passed on.

I thought that Tom Hanks was again excellent and the entire cast was terrific as well.

I thought it was extremely well acted and brilliantly directed but like I said the third one ended perfectly, but I thought this one was good as well. Now is it as good as the first three, no, but it's a very good, well entertaining film that I would recommend because if you saw the first three come on you got to go and see this one.

But I had such a good time and I love the fact that parents, the grandparents the kids and everybody knows how great all four toy stories are came back again so I have to give this once again a perfect 4 outs 4 stars.

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 – PARABELLUM

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is once again on the run because there is a $14 million dollars on his life. So once again John Wick must defend himself because he has been stripped of organizations services because he killed a member at the high table. In one assassination attempt after another has John Wick out to defend himself by any means necessary.

I have always been a huge Keanu Reeves fan. Once again John Wick chapter 3 is magnificent. There are tons of outstanding action scenes in these movies and I think it's even more apparent in this film. Reeves is once again excellent in his role I think he's a much better actor in certain roles, like in The Matrix I thought it was outstanding in that part. In this role he just out as a killing machine and there are some very funny parts in this film and like I said before there are some great action scenes in this movie.

And yes Halle Berry is in this role she has some really good action scenes but her acting is subpar and I've always said that. Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, are fantastic in their parts as usual. Asia Kate Dillon who plays The Adjudicator and she has some great fight scenes with Keanu Reeves and I look forward to seeing her enter next part because she really kind of has an excellent villain.

Keanu Reeves is fantastic and yes there will be a fourth installment. Sometimes he's a really good actor like in the "Lake House" with Sandra Bullock and of course all three of the Matrix films, "Point Break", "A Walk in the Clouds", "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" with their making a third one right now and so many other excellent movies that he is a part of. Marvel Studios are interesting and bringing them on for a long time so let's do it I'd love to see him as a superhero good or bad. I'll always admired Keanu Reeves and I can't wait for the fourth installment of John Wick.

I really enjoy this film so I'm giving it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars.
