Over the past 48 years, 350 young musicians have received scholarships from Topeka Jazz Workshop to further their jazz music education. This year that number grows, as five high school seniors from three different schools were announced as winners of $1,000 college scholarships from Topeka Jazz Workshop, Inc.

Drummer Anthony Dake and bassist Katie Rogg are both from Washburn Rural High School. Jordan Rowe from Seaman High School plays trombone. Dalton Imhoff-Brey plays trumpet and Ty’Rese Mendez plays saxophone at Topeka High school. Dake, Rowe, Imhoff-Brey and Mendez will all attend Washburn University, and Rogg will enroll at Kansas State University.

Topeka Jazz Workshop, Inc. is one of the nation’s longest, continuously running jazz concert series, dating from 1969.  Their journey is to “keep jazz alive and well through a live jazz concert series and a youth jazz scholarship program”.
