The Ortega brothers, Topeka natives, are hitting up the music and entertainment scene in the month of April, making this one family who are making things happen in the Top City.
Roger Ortega, a Topeka native, has spent the last few years in New York pursuing his musical career and is on the brink of taking off. Invited to perform and headline the Macy’s Grand Opening Celebration in New Jersey, his musical talent has also taken him to fundraising performances in Miami. Most Topekan’s last saw him perform at the 2008 Fiesta Mexicana celebration or might remember him from the band Slo Motion. His musical talent was nurtured at an early age with his father and uncles performing as The Paradize Band (recently inducted into The Kansas Music Hall of Fame). He remembers being nurtured to love the arts early on.
“Music is the soundtrack to our lives,” notes Roger on his website. Roger has a knack for catchy hooks, memorable melodies and storytelling through his vivid pictures of moments in time. For the past four years, Roger has put his musical creation on paper, meaning every word he writes ends up in his songs. His newest single, “Calling All Girls,” is part of his debut album which he will drop on Topeka on April 4. Listen to his music here.
Returning to Topeka for a, “thank you concert,” you can hear his new single and additional musical acts on April 6. Click here to purchase tickets.
Brother Mike has also followed his dreams of his life-long passion for professional wrestling and has been featured on WIBW’s Ralph Hipp show. All proceeds from Mike’s events go to local charities.
Brother Chris picked up his professional boxing career recently and has won several Golden Glove Championships. He is currently undefeated going into a match on April 21 at the Expo Center, “Redemption” Pro Boxing and MMA Fighting. Click here for Facebook invite.
Youngest brother, Rico, followed in his father’s and brother’s musical footsteps as a rap artist and has recorded and performed with Roger at various shows. He will be opening up for Roger on April 6th at the 6th Ave Ballroom.
It’s without a doubt that The Ortega boys are coming onto the music and entertainment scene in Topeka. With a background deeply rooted in the Oakland neighborhood, and a mother who was as tough as nails as their boxing coach, their hard work has no doubt helped them accomplish their dreams, making them an inspiration to our community and young artists.
