a dancer’s 12 days of xmas

9781625638540large20-year old dancer revisits a book she began writing at the age of 12.

Author Katherine Linquist, age 20, is a modern and contemporary dancer who has always enjoyed choreography and reading. She grew up just outside Topeka and is a dance major at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.  “Twelve-Day Christmas of Silverleene Forest” was born into a first draft eight years ago, during the Christmas season when Linquist was just 12 years old and had the idea of creating a dance production / book out of the “The Twelve Days of Christmas” song.

‘Twelve-Day Christmas’ was partially inspired by how much I loved dancing in  ‘The Nutcracker’ growing up.  I wanted to give people another story for Christmas time; something really fun that would have lots of spotlight roles and a big cast in general, so everyone could participate. This book is what spun out of the idea to base a dance production to the song ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’

“The Twelve-Day Christmas of Silverleene Forest” is a family-friendly fairytale based on the classic Christmas song. It tells who the “true loves” are, why so many gifts are needed and why it takes twelve entire days to give them. The reader finds these answers amidst fairies, princesses and princes, cloud-riding, liquid sunlight rings, ballerina swans and a battle to save the Kingdom.

Author Linquist is hosting a “meet-the-author” night on Wednesday, August 28 at Ramada Inn West from 3:30 – 7:30p.  The event is FREE and open to the public.  Linquist will be on hand to autograph copies of the book – and help you get ahead of your own holiday shopping. This might very well be the only author-signing before the holiday, as Linquist has been invited to study with a professional dance company this fall!  While getting your copy, you can also enjoy cookies and punch while your children color princes and princesses or have their picture taken with a real Ballerina Swan and/or fairy.  Stay to see the “9 ladies dancing.”  Everyone is welcome and kids are invited to dress-up as a prince, princess, fairy or ballerina.

Only a few copies will be available for purchase the day of the event, so pre-orders are highly, highly recommended. Deadline is August 14th.  Click here to reserve your signed copy.

Interesting Fact:

The characters in the book are named after three generations of Katherine’s family, most are first cousins.  The four fairies are/were all dancers at collegiate or professional level. The King and Queen are her grandparents.  The three Princesses are her cousins’ children.

Book Summary:

Princess Abigail watches her kingdom’s Christmas preparations, meets Prince Ryan, and is almost kidnapped within the space of a  single day. The King asks Ryan to protect Abigail and her two sisters, whether they are swinging through the forest or bouncing on clouds. All the while, Abigail and Ryan are assisted by their four fairy friends in seeking a betrothal gift that will please the king and queen, as is the custom. It shouldn’t be impossible, but the gifts keep sensing danger and running away.

A new threat to the kingdom of Silverlenne teams up with an old one and they return to capture the heir to Silverlenne: Princess Abigail. Prince Ryan, with Princesses Charlotte and Cora, search for her across the kingdom with help from five liquid-sunlight rings, eight dancing milkmaids, and ten lords marching to battle. Meanwhile, Abigail works with the fairies to escape her captor’s fortress. Ryan and the others only have days to find her… or they will lose both Abigail and Silverlenne.
